The Intermediate Sewing Course is designed to allow each student to focus on their own sewing pattern of choice. In addition to full guidance in class time, students are encouraged to progress at home with their sewing.
Students will continue to develop their knowledge of fabrics, interfacings, linings, altering patterns, fitting and garment construction.
In addition to (or instead of) working on their chosen pattern, each student has the opportunity to increase their skill set by focusing each week on a particular area of garment construction. Colour & Cloth has designed workbooks for various sewing projects including (among others):
Fitting: Darts, Gathers, Pleats, Shirring Elastic
Zips: Lapped, Invisible, Fly front
Pockets: Patch, In-seam
Hems: Machine Blind Hem, Herringbone hand stitch
Collar and Stand, Skirt vent, Cuff placket
Please bring a project of your choice: new pattern and fabric (calico also if you wish to toile up first, which is recommended). The project should be an advancement up from what you have sewn before. If you are not sure what project to tackle next, don’t worry, we can discuss this on week 1.
Sewing machines and sewing equipment can be provided. We have a mixture of modern and vintage sewing machines, an overlocker (serger) and a coverstitch machine.
However, you are encouraged to bring your own sewing machine so you will be more familiar with it. It must be in working order before your course commences. If it requires serviced or repaired beforehand, we can do that for you, CLICK HERE to book in.
