The Overlocker and Coverstitch one day workshop combines practical and demonstrative teaching designed to increase your CONFIDENCE when overlocking. There are many ways garments can be constructed however the overlocker is a great addition to your sewing room when you wish to up your sewing game and add a real finishing touch to your dressmaking. It’s also a great time saver. Christine will have lots of examples on hand to demonstrate the versatility and potential of these machines for both woven and knitted fabrics. Workshop content is abundant with designer and industry experience to enhance your sewing experience. You will leave buzzing with ideas and excited to overlock everything.
Note-taking and photography is recommended. Students are encouraged to ask lots of questions in addition to the workshop content.
Workshops are fun, friendly and focused.
There will be a short break for lunch. Students are encouraged to bring a packed lunch and refreshments.
This workshop is divided into 2 parts to allow each student not only to understand their own machine, but also to encourage confidence to sew stretchy fabrics and take on projects they may previously avoided.

Getting to know your machine and its potential. Understanding all the dials, stitches and where and when to use them. Working through the manual and taking notes and making our own examples of what the machine can do.

How to handle your fabric on the machine and make a miniature garment. Students will each cut and overlock together a miniature tee-shirt to learn the practicalities of how to shape and sew. We also look at how to update, alter and change necklines and fit stretch garments, and change hems all using only the overlocker.
The coverstitch machine will be available for each student to use and explore its potential.
- Your overlocker, foot pedal, manual and accessories
- Notepad, pencil and a camera
- 2 tee-shirts. These can be ones you no longer wear.
- Four spools of thread to match the threading colours on your over locker (These tend to be yellow, blue, red and green). I recommend COATS MOON 120’s thread. However, PFAFF machines tend to prefer GUTERMANN thread.
- The studio is located above a fabric store should you need to purchase anything on the day.
- If you don’t have an overlocker you will be able to use the studio overlocker. Please visit our online Sewing Shop to view and purchase the Overlockers I have used and recommend.
