New to sewing, dusting off a machine that's been sitting in the cupboard, or have you recently upgraded your machine? This 6-hour workshop is your friendly introduction to the machine itself — how it works, what all the dials and buttons actually do, and how to use it with confidence. This workshop is not suitable for embroidery machines.
- How to thread your machine correctly (top thread and bobbin)
- Understanding tension, stitch length, and stitch selection
- How to wind and insert a bobbin
- How to handle and manouvre fabrics under the machine to avoid damage to needle arms and plates.
- Whats in the accessory box - identify the feet and how to use them
- What needles to use for each fabric and project
- The best threads to use for your machine
- Getting to know the different parts of your machine and what they do
- Basic straight stitching and simple troubleshooting (skipped stitches, jams, thread bunching)
- Tips for machine care and maintenance
- Top tips from our Service / Repair department for maintaining a happy machine!
- Your own sewing machine, foot pedal and manual
- Your machine must be in full working order — if you'd like us to service it beforehand, we can arrange this in advance
- A few fabric scraps from materials you plan to use on your machine
- Your sewing kit, if you have one
- A notepad and pen
