Creating a bespoke cape
I received a commission to design and create a cape / coat for a very special birthday gift.
Creating a bespoke garment is great fun as I get to design and develop the whole process. From gathering fabric options, trims, buttons and finer details.
Next comes the concept sketch and then making up the toile for the first fitting to be sent to the client for approval.
Planning the process
The cloth was ordered from Linton Tweeds and the lining and buttons from Craftswoman fabrics.
The selvedge was used as a front detail and also as the centre back seam detail.
Every machine stitch was made on my Singer 201K which can be seen in the photographs.
Late night sewing
The deadline for delivery was Christmas 2022, so there was a great sewing buzz the week before to ensure the sewing schedule ran smoothly.
With all threads clipped, it was off to Dublin to deliver the cape to a very happy customer!
