Advanced Sewing Course
LET’S MEET MY STUDENTS
For those who have mastered the foundations of sewing and want to push their skills into professional tailoring and couture techniques, my Advanced Sewing Course is designed to deliver results. This course goes beyond following pattern instructions — it’s about developing an understanding of design, proportion, structure, and cloth so you can approach garment construction with confidence and creativity.
Fiona is creating the Freddie Jacket in beautiful purple wool tweed jacket from the pattern company BELLA Loves Patterns. She already has a wealth of sewing knowledge, and in class has gained additional knowledge of tailoring, and design detailing.
Yvonne joins my courses for the first time via recommendation from Anne. Yvonne is making a the Jasika Jacket from Closet Core patterns in navy cord. A seasoned sewer, Yvonne is discovering the importance of grainlines, hand tacking and adding a touch of her own personality through design detailing that pushes her comfort zone! It’s wonderful to push the boundaries of my students and encourage them to really express themselves with even the smallest detail.
Anne has been with me from a Beginner student, Intermediate and with every course she Advances her skills and knowledge. This course she has made her own pattern blocks, made a dress, cut a bias wool checked skirt and is now working on a self drafted blouse. Anne’s enthusiasm is evident in all all makes, she always has the next one lined up.
From choosing the correct fusible and lining, how to use a silk tie to create bias details, to creating hand made shoulder pads. Always underlining the importance of the correct pins, needles, threads for each project. All this and much more ensures that my students challenge themselves increasing their creativity and confidence.
WHY 3 HOUR SESSIONS WORK
The class format is intentionally set at three hours, over a period of 6 weeks. This duration strikes the perfect balance between depth and focus. It allows students to make tangible progress in every session, without the fatigue of a longer day.
The result is steady, measurable growth in technical ability — students leave each class with new skills they can immediately apply to their own work. Before the each class ends, I check in with each student to see if they would like any ‘homework’ during the week.
The feedback on the 3 hour class duration has been extremely positive. Time flies when you are immersed in sewing. With students travelling from Cookstown, Belfast and Antrim the longer class time, but shorter course length means they get the same teaching hours, with less travel time.

"I learned more about my own self confidence, increased my sewing skills that helped me create my fashion ideas. Time just flies when you are immersed in sewing."
- ANNE, ADVANCED SEWING STUDENT
ALWAYS UPPING YOUR GAME
The course is structured to build professional-level understanding through a series of advanced methods and couture practices. Students can expect to work on:
Designer Details – Examining garments through the lens of design and construction, with careful attention to proportion, balance, and fabric choice.
Handmade Shoulder Pads – Learning to create internal structure that enhances fit and shape in tailored garments.
Bias Binding & Detailing – Developing refined finishing techniques that elevate the inside and outside of a garment.
Couture Construction Approaches – Moving away from step-by-step dressmaking instructions and instead working with a designer’s mindset, adapting methods for better results.
Block Pattern Work – For students ready to progress further, the course also explores personal block creation as a foundation for original designs.
