Common questions

Everything you need to know before booking.

Service — routine maintenance to keep your machine in excellent working order. Cleaning, oiling, tension checks, needle inspection and a full health check. Done regularly to prevent future problems and extend your machine's life.

Repair — fixing a specific fault. Diagnosing and resolving issues such as broken parts, needle arm misalignment, bobbin problems, seized mechanisms, jammed threads or electronic component failure.

You can book a service, a repair, or both — the online form will guide you through.

Not all sewing machines are built the same — and neither are their service needs:

  • Vintage and domestic machines are mostly mechanical. They're quicker to strip down, clean, oil and reassemble.
  • Computerised and embroidery machines contain circuit boards, sensors and complex electronic components. They may require electronic testing, recalibration, software updating and considerably more time.

Think of it like cars — servicing a classic Mini isn't the same as servicing a modern hybrid. Both get the care they deserve, but one takes more time, tools and expertise.

Please bring the following when you drop your machine off:

  • The machine itself (in its carry case if you have one)
  • Original bobbin and accessories kit
  • Foot pedal and power cable
  • Machine manual (if you have it)

Our studio is at 1 Hillside Crescent, Portadown, BT63 5JB — there is parking alongside. Drop-off hours are Monday to Saturday, 09:00–18:00.

No — the service and repair prices cover our labour only. Any additional parts required (needles, belts, circuit boards, bobbin mechanisms etc.) are charged separately at cost. We will always let you know if parts are needed and their cost before proceeding.

Note: delays in delivery of specific parts from mainland UK suppliers can sometimes impact our turnaround time — we will keep you updated throughout.

You can check your machine's current service status online at any time — no need to call or visit. You'll need your booking reference number from your confirmation email.

Once you've been notified that your machine is ready, please collect it within 48 hours unless otherwise agreed. Payment is made upon collection.

If you need to arrange a different collection time, just give us a call or drop us an email as soon as possible.

I've just completed a 6 week beginners course with Christine in Colour and Cloth. I had never used a sewing machine before booking the course and was nervous going into it but Christine put me at ease from the very beginning. The course was really enjoyable and the 6 weeks flew in, I learned so much during my time and made a lovely skirt for myself. I would definitely recommend Colour and Cloth to anyone interested in sewing. Christine's knowledge was invaluable and I will definitely be booking another course.

Left two sewing machines in with Brian for repair/servicing. His knowledge and attention to detail was very reassuring. Both machines are now working perfectly. I would thoroughly recommend.

This was such a wonderful experience! The skills and knowledge I have taken away will propel any future creations immensely. I’ll never look at the Sewing Bee in the same light! I honestly believe these are life skills, honed and taught in the most easily understood way by Christine… such an honestly beautiful person who truly has the patience of a saint. These past 6 weeks will stay with me a lifetime… tho I do hope to complete another course at some stage again. Highly recommend to anyone with no or a lot of sewing skill or knowledge. You will thoroughly love it! Fabulous!!! Also had my sewing machine given the once over… cleaned and serviced… by Brian - again, highly recommend! My sewing machine now runs so smoothly, with an excellent timely turnaround. Thank you both of you!

I had such a lovely time with Christine. She helped me on a mission to adjust and repair jeans I had been looking to have fixed for a long time. Christine's advice was incredible and I went home and completed the adjustments. I also bought a fabulous sewing machine which has been brilliant

I recently completed a 6 week programme with Christine in Colour and Cloth. I learnt so many skills that I thought I would not have been capable of. Christine is highly skilled and professional in all things sewing. She is very patient and takes time with all her students. I really enjoyed the classes. I would highly recommend Colour and Cloth to anyone who wants to learn sewing. Christine is the best there is in this industry. Tracey Power.
